Baby D's Baby Backs
A full slab, bark on, pulled off the pit when it's ready and not a minute before. Served with two sides and Texas toast.
Houston, Texas · Since 1964
Three generations of a Greek family, one hickory pit, and a city that keeps coming back. Smoked low and slow on the West Loop and South Shepherd since the year the doors opened.
The Demeris Family
In March 1947, Frank Demeris stepped off a boat into Houston with his eldest son Gus and his daughter Georgia. He took a job washing up in the T&G Restaurant kitchen on Fannin Street. Gus went to work at a barbecue joint run by another Greek immigrant.
They pooled every dollar they earned. By the end of 1948 the rest of the family had crossed the Atlantic to join them. Frank bought a café in 1952 and named it after his sons. Then, in 1964, Gus and Jimmy bought a little place called Sanders Barbecue — and the first Demeris Bar‑B‑Q lit its pit.
Sixty years later, Frank's grandsons run the company. Same family. Same hickory. The brisket is still trimmed by hand every morning, and the Greek salad on the menu is not an accident.
We were a family, and there were always fights, but the next day we were brothers and sister again.Jimmy Demeris
Sixty Years on the Pit
Frank arrives in Houston with Gus and Georgia. He works the kitchen on Fannin Street; Gus works a barbecue pit.
Frank buys Anthony's Cafe on North San Jacinto and renames it the G&N Cafe, after his sons Gus and Nick.
Gus and Jimmy purchase Sanders Barbecue. The first Demeris Bar‑B‑Q opens. Nick, Georgia and George join that same year.
A second location opens in December, out in what was then the developing west side of Houston.
The family moves into catering. It grows into one of the largest catering operations in the city.
The northwest store relocates to the West Loop — patio, private dining room, drive‑up window, full bar.
Frank's grandsons run Demeris. Two restaurants, one catering company, and the same sauce recipe.

The Menu
A working selection. The full menu runs longer, and there's a children's menu, a heart‑healthy D‑Lite list, and bar‑b‑q by the pound to take home.
It's no sin to get sauce on your chin.

Nice portions of beef brisket on my Sandwich, moist and tinder like I requested.. fat side up. The cashier was super friendly and humorous. The gentleman bussing the tables was beyond attentive.. and Top notch service, which earned him a healthy tip.

Demeris Catering
From no tie to bow tieThe family moved into catering in the early 1980s. It is now one of the largest catering operations in Houston, and it will just as happily roll a pit up to a job site as plate a black‑tie dinner in a ballroom.
